Remember St. Clare's
and Help Heal the Healers
It has been more than one year since we, the 1,129 former employees of St. Clare's Hospital,
learned that our pension plan was being terminated as of November 1, 2018. Over 400 pensioners had their monthly
pension payments slashed by 25% or more, while another 600 plus former employees learned that they would get NOTHING at all. It was devastating news for all of us, with no time to prepare. Now many former dedicated healthcare workers are faced with difficult life choices because of this. Some have had to delay their retirement and continue to work; some have had to sell their homes; and others have had to seek financial assistance wherever they can.
Since we heard the terrible news about our pension, we have done everything in our power to get back
what is rightfully ours. We have searched for attorneys who might be able to help us; we have lobbied state lawmakers for funding; and have attempted to reach out to the Bishop and the Albany Diocese for assistance. Although there have been small victories and words of encouragement, we still have not received any financial help.
Both New York State and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany played a role in this financial disaster, yet neither has claimed any responsibility and both have turned their backs on us, the healthcare workers who tirelessly took care of New York's poorest at the direction of the church. We have been abandoned after carrying out their work.
The public support we have received over the past 6 months has been heartwarming, and we thank you very much.
Unfortunately, continuing with this struggle requires resources - more than we can afford with our limited incomes. Therefore, we have initiated a GoFundMe page to pay for media, legal fees and other expenses required to continue our quest for funding. If you can afford to, please consider donating whatever you can to help our cause.
This has been a very stressful, difficult time for many of us but
the kindness and generosity of our families, friends and neighbors
has helped us to keep moving forward and remain hopeful for a positive outcome.
Thank you for your help and continued support. Bless you all!
